My motherβs words continue to echo in my ears.
I am originally from Ghana but have been a resident of the United Kingdom for over 50 years. I still maintain my links with my Ghanaian culture and traditions. I have formal teaching qualification and I am also a proficient trainer. Having trained for 3 years and qualified as a nurse, I served for 36 years in the NHS, retiring in 2009 as a Divisional Manager in a large NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. Further courses in training and development during my service in the NHS boosted my previous experience in teaching and learning, enabling me to deliver workshops in African Culture after retirement. In 2017, I set up a Sole Trader organisation Culture! Culture! and continued to deliver cultural activities to Community Groups, Primary, Secondary Schools and Academies across boroughs in Greater Manchester. In retirement, I have been able to transfer my skills in Good Governance to community groups and organisations, providing support with policy writing, project report writing, risk management, advising, researching and delivering inspirational talks to encourage confidence building. I bring many skills, experience and enthusiasm to work towards a shared understanding of our inherited cultures.
